BORDER CASTLES

Following the Arab invasion, construction began on the Marca Hispanica, which was settled by force in this area as the battle front between the Christians and the Muslims was in Pallars. From those times we can still see the border castles built around 1,000 years ago, such as the fortresses at Mur, Sant Gervàs and Llordà.

If you are interested in the castles you can not miss visiting: Alsamora tower, Orcau castle, Guardia castle, Tremp walled area, Miravet fortress, Antist, Estorm tower, Ginebrell tower, Arbul castle, Conques castle, Montllobar castle and Toló castle.

MUR CASTLE

This castle, due to its architecture and its conservation condition, is a landmark of the border castles in the Catalan counties.

LLORDÀ CASTLE

This fortress dates from the 11th century and it is one of the most important examples of non-strictly religious, residential architecture from the High Middle Ages in Catalonia, built by Arnau Mir de Tost.

SANT GERVÀS CASTLE

This castle, standing over a rock, has two main elements. On the one hand, its dungeon, more than 15 metres high and on the other hand, the walled enclosure, with a triangular shape closing a 1,200 m2 area and which has disappeared to a big extent.
