MMontcortès Lake is the only lake without a floodgate in the Lleida Pyrenees and the only one, alongside those of Basturs, which is not glacial but karst in origin. Its waters come from an internal source and have a depth of 30 metres, affording it a mysterious and legendary nature. The lake is included in the Plan for Areas of Natural Interest (PEIN).
